Support to farmers
The increased farm gate prices for milk has been vital to lift profitability within the dairy sector, incomes have also improved for the beef, sheep ,tillage sectors, however these returns still have a considerable way to go before a viable and sustainable farm incomes can be achieved for the majority of farm families across West Cork.
Many farmers do not rely solely on farm income to support themselves and their families. Therefore some farmers work full time or part time off farm and others may be eligible for a social welfare income support if they satisfy a means test.
West Cork Development Partnership is available to support farmers to improve their incomes and livelihoods, this can be achieved by utilising the various programs operated by WCDP, such as Rural Development Programme/Leader, Rural Social Scheme, Tus, Rural Enterprise Advice and Support.
