Last year over 230 walking, cycling and other outdoor recreation events were organised all over the country attracting over 10,000 people and it is hoped the number and variety of events being organised in each county will increase again this year!
National Trails Day is an all-Ireland event organised by Coillte, the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government, the National Trails Office of the Irish Sports Council, Fáilte Ireland and Outdoor NI and aims to increase awareness about the fantastic recreation opportunities in the Irish countryside and encourage people to experience a trail in their locality.
The partners in National Trails Day are now asking all individuals, clubs and organisations that are passionate about trails and outdoor recreation to consider organising an event in your locality this year. Events can include walking, cycling and equestrian events, guided canoe trips, family orienteering challenges, “Leave No Trace” hikes, trail conservation work, heritage walks and much more.
