Certified Payroll Technician

The Certified Payroll Technician course will provide students with a comprehensive knowledge of PAYE, PRSI and USC, and Employment legislation and practices as they relate to both employers and their employees. The topics covered have been identified as the most important issues which affect employers today. Many of these topics can lead to employers having substantial liabilities because of the incorrect manner with which they are dealt.

The course material includes numerous examples and self-assessment questions which students can use to develop their knowledge while they study. The course is extremely practical and is designed to allow students to progress at a realistic pace. The course clarifies some of the most common misconceptions in relation to the operation of PAYE, PRSI and USC. If you work in payroll, or if you want to work in payroll, if you are responsible for the payroll function, you won’t find a better course for your needs and you will also find that this course is extremely interesting, practical and relevant to you.

  • There are no educational requirements for admission to the Certified Payroll Technician course.
  • In order to qualify as a Certified Payroll Technician, students must successfully complete both Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the course. Exams are held twice yearly, in late May and in early December, with repeat examination sittings being held in August and February.
  • Prior knowledge of PAYE/PRSI is an advantage but not essential.

Dates:  Stage 1: Monday 10th September.  7 – 9.30pm.  Stage 2: February – April.
Venue: Clonakilty
Cost:  The cheapest way to pay the fees is to pay for the complete course up front.  That works out at €1,090.

If a student wishes to pay each term then the first term fee is €645 and the second term is €495.  This is a total of €1,140.

iPass also offer an instalment facility of 6 months at €195 per month.  This works out at €1,170.

Course fees cover tuition, HETAC fee, exam entry, course materials and access to the iPass online learning facility which has presentations and quizzes.   Students also have access to the iPass payroll helpline for help on queries they have with the course material or payroll queries they have in relation to their own work.

Accreditation:  The iPass course is HETAC accredited Level 6 special purposes award.   This is the highest specific payroll qualification available in Ireland.   Some people may refer to a FETAC Level 5 or Level 6 course.   This course is a higher level course so would be a natural progression for people who have done either of the FETAC courses.  On job websites if recruiters ask for an IPASS or a CPT qualification it is this course to which that they are referring.
