Welcoming People into the Irish Outdoors

NATIONAL TRAILS DAY is a celebration of Ireland’s wonderful variety of trails and a chance for everyone to enjoy some of our most beautiful countryside, forests, mountains and lakes.

This year National Trails Day will be held on Sunday, 3rd of October and it is hoped that the event will be even bigger and better than last year with more events being organised on trails around the country.

National Trails Day is a great way of increasing awareness about local trails.

Please stay tuned for news about organised events in the West Cork area.

New Local & Community Development Programme

Mar 1st, 2010No Comments

The West Cork Development Partnership is pleased to announce the introduction of the Local and Community Development Programme.  The programme which integrates the former Local Development Social Inclusion Programme (LDSIP) and the Community Development Programme (CDP) is managed by Pobal on behalf of the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs. It forms part of the National Development Plan 2007-2013.

The Local and Community Development Programme aims to tackle poverty and social exclusion through partnership and constructive engagement between Government and people in the most disadvantaged communities. The programme prioritises marginalised people and groups within the most disadvantaged communities in the West Cork and Lee Valley areas, targetting those furthest from access to education, training and employment, and those at highest risk of social exclusion. The programme will continue to work with the target groups/areas and issues as prioritised under the previous programmes (LDSIP nad CDP)  based on an identification and demonstration of analysis of local need.

There are four key programme goals of the new programme.

  1. Promote awareness, knowledge and uptake of a wide range of statutory, voluntary and community services.
  2. Increase access to formal and informal educational, recreational and cultural development activities and resources.
  3. Increase the work readiness of people to enter the labour market.
  4. Promote engagement with policy, practice and decision making processes on matters affecting local communities
Currently, the West Cork Development Partnership is formulating its development priorities under each of the programme goals and it is intended that these development priorities will fully complement our range other development programmes including the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 (LEADER), the Rural Social Scheme, the Warmer Homes Scheme, Rural Recreation and Walks as well as other community initiatives such as the Community Services Programme and the Millenium Partnership.  The programme will also complement and support a range of other supports delivered from agencies such as Pobal, FAS, HSE, VEC and the DFSA amongst others.
The planning process for the new programme will be fully completed at the end of March and the actions identified will be delivered therafter.  Full details on the range and nature of the specific actions and priorities will be announced locally and will be detailed on www.wcdp.ie

Salmon Hardship Fund (Community Support Scheme)

Apr 28th, 2008No Comments

West Cork LEADER Co-op invites applications from individuals and community organisations seeking development funding from the 2008 Salmon Hardship Fund (Community Support Scheme). Grant assistance is targeted at the development of additional economic opportunities for crews and employees in the processing and ancillary sectors in communities where commercial salmon fishing has been a well-established activity. The scheme is available to those affected by the cessation of the mixed stock salmon fishery in West Cork. Whilst focused primarily on the end of drift netting, the scheme will also address those areas where other mixed stock fishing activities are affected (draft, snap, loop, bag, trap). Development funding can be provided for a range of activities including: training, diversification into non-salmon fishing activity, enterprise development, education and employment preparation, selected community initiatives, etc. The scheme is not directed at commercial salmon fishing holders who have availed of payments from the Salmon Hardship Scheme.
