What is Discover Arts ?

A four week course delivered by artists offered only to unemployed people with no previous art experience

What will I learn?

Some basic art skills in printmaking and painting, ways of thinking creatively,

generating ideas and inspiring the imagination. Participants will be encouraged to collect ideas in a journal and follow them through to create an artwork. The course will also offer a social opportunity and a space to share and discuss creative ideas. Invitations to a film screening and an art exhibtion opening are included.

Who are the Artists?

The course will be delivered by visual artists John Simpson in Skibbereen and Julia Pallone in Clonakility. John is a painter living on Sherkin Island. His work is influenced by the ever changing elements of sea, sky, earth and light. He has exhibited widely and has work in public and private collections. Julia is originally from the West of France and lives in Kinsale. She explores a poetic vision of the world through drawing, photography and installations. She has exhibited extensively in France and Ireland and has been awarded several residencies.

Do I need to bring anything?

All arts materials will be provided and some course handouts will be made available. Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided also.

Is there a cost?

There is a single fee of €10 at enrolment.

Expressions of Interest Sought for Hospitality Management Skillnet Training Courses

Hospitality Management Skillnet is an industry led training initiative funded by the Department of Education and Skills.

A pioneering new feature of the programme is the provision of a percentage of training for unemployed individuals. 

Hospitality Management Skillnet are delighted to announce that the following categories are now eligible to attend training courses for free.

Category 1: People on the Live Register 
  • Those in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance (JA) & Job Seekers Benefit (JB).
Category 2: Other Payment Recipients 
  • Disability Allowance.
  • Blind Pension.
  • Invalidity Pension.
  • Illness Benefit.
  • Lone Parents Allowance.
  • Back-to-Work Allowance (Scheme closed to new applicants – May 2009).
  • Back-to-Work Enterprise Allowance.
Category 3: People Receiving No Social Welfare Payments
  • Former Sole Traders and Small Business Owners.
  • Recent Graduates who are unemployed.
  • Individuals who don’t qualify for Social Welfare payment because of their spouse’s income.
  • Individuals, including former semi-state employees, signing on for credits but in receipt of no social welfare payment.
  • Individuals who have accepted redundancy payments.

Digital Media Worker

The West Cork Development Partnership is currently offereing a work placement under the FAS WPP1 scheme. The placement will be hosted in the Clonakilty office and will assist the organisation to further develop its our various online and digital media resources. This includes the development of our own web-based resources www.wcdp.ie and www.westcorkaplaceapart.com which are significant platforms as communications and information media to a wide variety of stakeholders. It is also intended that the placement would assist our development teams to consolidate and enhance our presence on relevant Web 2.0 and social networking platforms. The role will involve the development of content including text, printed image and film.

It is expected that the placement will have third level qualifications in design and/or and digital media.

West Cork Development Partnership will be piloting an EMPLOYMENT ACTION PLAN INITIATIVE in one West Cork town over the coming months.

The initiative will involve working intensively with an existing local employment / commerce / enterprise group to develop an action plan for the local area.

Thinking Beyond Limits: A One Day Motivational Workshop for Job Seekers & Would Be Entrepreneurs

The West Cork Development Partnership has engaged acclaimed motivational speaker and Author Kevin Kelly (www.kevinkellyunlimited.com) to deliver a one day motivational workshop for job seekers and would be entrepreneurs in West Cork.

The initial workshops are scheduled as follows:
23rd September 2009 – The Munster Arms, Bandon, Co. Cork. 9.15 – 4.00 (4pm-5.30 one to one clinics)
24th September 2009 – The West Lodge Hotel, Bantry, Co. Cork. 9.15 – 4.00 (4pm-5.30 one to one clinics)

Subject to demand the West Cork Development Partnership will select additional venues in January 2010.

The workshops which will be interactive in nature will cover:

· Communications Excellence (how to make a compelling presentation? Including one minute pitch, CV design, personal branding on and offline etc.)

· Developing a success mindset– how? (learning how to identify and disempower your fears)

· Modelling of Past Success Strategies

· Brainstorming new ideas (thinking and doing differently-the route to your chosen occupation)

· Successful Goal Setting—how to move from inaction to action

Representatives from Development and Support Agencies will be in attendance on the day and will facilitate one to one meetings with workshop participants from 4pm onwards.

Attendance at the workshops is FREE but is limited to those who register in advance at www.wcdp.ie

This is a unique opportunity to be inspired and learn the compelling approach necessary to getting a job in the current environment.
